Targeting the bacterial SOS response for new antimicrobial agents: drug targets, molecular mechanisms and inhibitors

نویسندگان

چکیده

Antimicrobial resistance is a pressing threat to global health, with multidrug-resistant pathogens becoming increasingly prevalent. The bacterial SOS pathway functions in response DNA damage that occurs during infection, initiating several pro-survival and mechanisms, such as repair hypermutation. This makes components potential targets may combat drug-resistant decrease emergence. review discusses the mechanism of pathway; structure function AddAB, RecBCD, RecA LexA; efforts develop selective small-molecule inhibitors these proteins. These serve valuable tools for target validation provide foundations desperately needed novel antibacterial therapeutics.

Molecular mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents

Infectious diseases caused by bacterial pathogens represent a serious public health concern. Antimicrobial agents such as anti-bacterial drugs are often indicated for chemotherapy of bacterial infections in clinical medicine. Thus, it is important to study the biological mechanisms that confer bacterial pathogenesis and virulence. Under selective evolutionary pressure when in the presence of an...

Antimicrobial agents targeting bacterial cell walls and cell membranes.

Antimicrobial agents that target the bacterial cell wall or cell membrane have been used effectively for the past 70 years. Among the agents that inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis, the beta-lactam antibiotics have emerged into broad-spectrum agents that inhibit most pathogenic bacteria, but are now being threatened by the rapid spread of drug-inactivating beta-lactamases. Glycopeptides stil...

Molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions and their potential for the discovery of new drug targets.

Vaccines and chemotherapy have undeniably been the discoveries in the field of biomedical research that have exerted the biggest impact on the improvement of public health. Nevertheless, the development of bacterial resistance to antibiotics has co-evolved over time with the discovery of new drugs. This entails the necessity for continuous research on new anti-infectious agents. The current rev...

Newest Targets for Anticonvulsant Agents: An Overview

Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by recurrent seizures influencing about 1% of the worldwide population. Despite much progress in understanding the pathogenesis of epilepsy, the molecular basis of human epilepsy still remains unclear. Common approaches for pharmacotherapy of epilepsy are still directed towards controlling the symptoms and suppression of seizures. Clinical use ...
